Tie your own flower bouquet – learn the spiral technique

Spiral technique is a method of binding flower bouquets, where the stems are crossed in a spiral form. By rotating the bouquet while adding flowers and greens, you get a balanced, even, and stable bouquet. The stems support each other's weight, and the bouquet stands steady on its own, quite literally - a well-bound spiral bouquet can stand on its own when placed on a table, without any support.

Start by cleaning the stems - remove any leaves that could end up in the water when the bouquet is placed in the vase. This way you avoid dirty water, and you make the bouquet last longer.

Start with the most outward flowers. Place the first two stems in a cross with the top one slanting towards the left. Hold the intersection between your thumb and index finger on your left hand. Take the next stem and place it on top of the top stem, even more slanted towards the left. Continue adding flowers and greenery in the same way, always slanted and with the stems crossing, and twist the bouquet slightly clockwise as you add new stems. This will give it a stable spiral shape and help you achieve an even distribution of flowers and greenery throughout the bouquet.

When you are satisfied with the size and shape of the bouquet, tie the bouquet together with twine, floral wire, or a pretty ribbon. Make sure it is tight enough to hold the flowers in place, but not so tight that you damage the stems.

Trim the stems to the desired length, depending on the height of the vase you will be using. Make diagonal cuts on the stems to increase water absorption. Place the bouquet in a vase with fresh water.
